Mthatha Diary

Dear Friends of Rotary

This is once again the end of our Rotary year and I want to thank the outgoing president, G Lessing and his Board of Directors for their sterling efforts over the last year.

The Rotary International President for 2011 – 2012 is Kalynan Banerjee and he has requested Rotarians to think of “new and different ways” to take on the challenges of today. And his theme for this year is to “Reach within and Embrace Humanity” and Rotarians need to be guided by three emphases – the family, continuity and change.

The first emphasis should be family, he said,  because family is the starting point for everything.

Rotary is trying to accomplish. Therefore Rotary will look at housing , at clean water and sanitation, at health care, at all issues affecting mothers and children.

Banjeree further said Continuity involves continuing and strengthening those things Rotarians do well.

The Rotary club of Mthatha will continue to assist the community of Mthatha  and all funds raised will be for the benefit of the community. No request for assistance from our Club goes unheeded and we consider each and every request  and do our best to accommodate the needs of every request.

Currently the club has a blanket drive underway and is assisting iKhaya Loxolo with drilling a borehole to assist them to become self sufficient in producing crops and running a dairy. We also pledge our continuing support to one of the Rotary’s main aims, the eradication of polio.

None of this would be possible without your continued support of our Clubs fund raising endeavours and we thank you for this.

Planning has commenced for our main fund raising event, the October Fair, but we have encountered a small snag in that our regular venue ; the sport fields;  is being upgraded and we will no longer be able to utilize this facility. We are in the process of sourcing a new venue and we will advise all once this has been secured. Watch this space.
